Too Hot!

  • Published in: Event | Saturday 14 June 2008 at 02:31

Community Dog Walk is cancelled due to excessive heat. If you own a lab, boxer, golden or any water-loving pooch, I suggest throwing balls into the pool. I plan to vegetate on top of the AC register. Although, I might have to move some of the dogs....

Adopt-A-Thon After The Fact

  • Published in: Event | Sunday 1 June 2008 at 04:26

Our volunteers are amazing. Three dogs found their forever homes today and I barely lifted a finger. Most of them had never done anything like this before, but they went about things like old pros! The dogs came from HOPE Rescue in Turlock and I want to thank Brenda for trusting HSSC and its volunteers with her dogs. They were beautiful little dogs and we hope to do this again soon.

Tuolumne Humane Society deserves a Purple Heart for all the yapping they were subjected to. Fortunately for Any Feline Rescue, we were all located on the other side of the store entryway. It was nice to go to their table for a bit of peace and quiet.

Grace and my new Bearcoat Shar Pei, Edward the Bear, were great ambassadors. Edward was hugely popular, but that's to be expected. He's a pretty handsome fellow. Grace got to spend lots of time with her prospective adoptive mom, and I was happy to see how well she handled the noise and chaos.

Here is Edward saying THANK YOU!!!!:

We Have A Busy Weekend Coming

  • Published in: Event | Tuesday 13 May 2008 at 03:16

First off, this weekend's Community Dog Walk is cancelled due to weather. It is estimated we will have our first 100 degree day Thursday and it will last through the weekend. Please keep your pets cool and hydrated.

Saturday and Sunday we will have a booth at the Hughson Fruit and Nut Festival. For details look on the calendar.

Saturday, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, I will be at the Riverbank Petco hosting a free dog training and behavior clinic. Bring those rowdy pooches and get free tips on everything from food to toys and more. Dogs must be on leash. From 9:00 am to 10:00 am, there will be a pre-clinic puppy wrassle. Check out Grace's moves, she's a true WWE Diva. Low cost microchipping will also be available.

Sunday we will be having our third spay/neuter clinic for companion cats. All 50 slots are full, but we are accepting calls for the waitlist. Our clinic hotline is (209) 247-3651.

Thank You, Angel's Share!

Friday night, Angel's Share Wine Shop was the host for our Beer Tasting Fundraiser. The turnout was great and we all had a very good time. Thanks to Flying Dog Brewery for pouring samples of their great beers. So rather than bore you with my commentary, I will let you be the judge. Here is what it looks like when animal lovers drink beer for a cause:

It's Hot Out Here!

  • Published in: Event | Sunday 13 April 2008 at 03:28

Great turnout for today's Community Dog Walk, despite the heat. I was a bit unprepared for it to be so darn hot! Everyone was great and the dogs didn't seem to mind too much. Petco donated foldable water bowls and we really put them to good use!

Grace made her debut and walked pretty well on leash. She fell in love with a dachsund named Lily and later took a nap on top of an Irish wolfhound named Regan. If I can ever figure out how to get the pictures off my phone I will post them.

Speaking of Irish wolfhounds, the Goldman family brought Regan and he was accompaied by their 2 Borzois, Ilya and Nikolai. It's pretty easy to cross an intersection when the drivers are stopping to stare at these gorgeous massive dogs. At one point we crossed paths with a gentleman and his Mastiff. Quite a sight! A rat terrier named Penny was the smallest dog on the walk and I think she could have ridden one of the big dogs without them noticing.

To everyone who joined us: Thank You! Let's do it again soon.
