10.5 Hours + 341 Miles = 21 Lives Spared
Traci Jennings
I'm pretty tired so this will be brief. At 7:30 a.m. I picked up a rented cargo van, took it home and crammed it with all the crates I had (and a few borrowed ones). By 9:a.m. I met Pat Oliver, Gail Ferrari-Martin and Kathleen Gutierrez at Stanislaus County Animal Services. The four of us and Officer Giblin loaded 19 dogs and puppies into the van. Gail added a little Cocker she rescued and I was on the road at 10:25 a.m. At noon, I added passenger #21, a very small and medically challenged Shar Pei named Wilbur.
At 2:00 p.m. I pulled into the parking lot at Butte County Humane Society in Chico and the staff began off-loading the 20 dogs and puppies that would be put up for adoption or into foster care. Wilbur was picked up by Shar Pei Rescue Director Anna Payne. Since I hate travelling solo, I brought Grace along for the ride. At 3:05 p.m. we were back on the road home. We arrived home by 6:00 p.m.
So ten and a half hours and 341 miles roundtrip...If I could do it again tomorrow I would. But, tonight I'm glad to be home with my herd.
